Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Today on this 2005 Jeep Liberty, we are going to install part number 13044 from Curt. The first step involved is to go ahead and remove the recovery hook right here. This part will actually come off and stay off because there is no room for this and the hitch. Alright, to remove the hook there are three bolts that we need to take off from the frame. OK, now we will go ahead and show you where the attaching points are on the vehicle. There is going to be this weld nut, this one and this one, that was covered up by the hook. Now, the ones that have been exposed, you probably want to clean them out a little bit. So we are going to use some lubricant and just go ahead and spray it down. Then we will go ahead and thread one of the hitch bolts into it. You want to go in a few threads and back it off and then go a few more until you can run it all of the way through to the other side. Our driver side of the vehicle is finished now. Let us go over to the passenger side and clean out the threads over there. 0:55 more

It is going to be using these three existing threaded holes in the frame. Now, since this is an older vehicle, we are going to have to take some time out to clean up the threads on the vehicle here. And we are just looking at the driver side. This is going to be identical, as well, on the passenger side. The first step to do is to go ahead and spray it down with some lubricant. Let it soak in a little bit. Then use one of the hitch bolts to help thread in a little bit and try to work some of that dirt and grime and rust out of there. We will go ahead and repeat the same process on the rest of these bolts. This will take a considerable amount of time to clean these out. 0:43 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Jeep Liberty

Today on this 2007 Jeep Liberty we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13044. We are underneath the vehicle and we are taking a look at the driver side frame rail. As you can see, we have three existing weld nuts here, one at the rear side, one at the middle and then one at the forward side. Those are going to provide our three attaching points for our trailer hitch. And that is going to be the same on both the driver and passenger sides. Into those weld nuts, we are going to be installing 12 millimeter bolts, along with a conical tooth washer, that is provided with our hitch installation kit. And what you may notice is that the weld nuts have some corrosion or road grime built up in them, like on this vehicle. So the first thing that we want to do is go ahead and clean those out thoroughly. To do that, we just want to take a spray lubricant, like a WD-40 and go ahead and spray that down. Then we just want to take a thick bristled wire brush of some sorts and go ahead and run that in there. You probably need to do that a couple times. And we just want to repeat that for all six of the weld nuts. 1:02 more

Your vehicle may not have the skid shield, so it is going to have the empty three holes. And it is going to be the same thing on the other side. In this case, this actually comes down with a recovery hook that is in place. This whole piece and assembly will actually have to come down and stay off when the hitch is installed.
